Bridge to Terabithia workbook

While looking for more online reading class materials, I found another workbook that you may find useful in your homeschool classroom. As your child reads each chapter of the book, he can answer the questions in the workbook. I look forward to using this with my kiddo.

Book: Bridge to Terabithia

Author: Katherine Paterson

Because of Winn-dixie Chapter Q&A

For each chapter we read in reading class I have my daughter answer a series of questions and look up any words that she may not have understood. We recently finished reading this book entitled “Because of Winn-Dixie” by Kate DiCamillo. I found these great questions online and wanted to share. The links below have questions for each chapter. You may want to skim through the chapters and choose 3-4 vocabulary words to have your child look up.    Ch 1-7      Ch 8-13   Ch 14-20

JW Language

I’m excited about this new application called JW Language that the organization has put out for us. I wanted to share an idea with you on how I plan to combine using this application along with the free foreign language website (DuoLingo) to not only learn a foreign language but to also use it in the ministry! Both JW Language and DuoLingo are in the app store so that makes it easy to learn on the go or when you have a free moment.

I’ve been using DuoLingo for about a month now and I really like the program. Of course this is a secular program so to learn terms and greetings for the ministry you would turn to JW Language. I downloaded the app a few days ago and browsed through it, I LOVE it! The application is so easy to use. I also like that for each phrase or term your learning, there is a play button to hear how it is said and it sounds like a normal person, not a robot. The combination of both applications or websites can help you become fluent in another language!

I’m SUPER excited about this! For the longest time, I’ve wanted to go to a Spanish congregation. I’ve never visited because I didn’t really understand the language and none of the Spanish programs taught the terms that would be used in the Watchtower or Bible Study. Now that this program is out, I’m looking to fully immerse myself in learning the language and maybe trying it out in the ministry.  Have any of you had success in combining this application along with your foreign language program?

Teaching your child to read

The month of August was soooooo busy! With the campaign, vacation and and moving to a new place I didn’t have time to think straight! Thankfully, the move is over and unpacking is almost done and now I’m getting back to our normal routine….

I wanted to tell you about this great free website that really helped my daughter years ago when we were teaching her how to read and now we use it for my son. It’s called and it was a fun way to teach letters , phonics and early reading. The website is free but they do have a curriculum you can purchase with additional features. The Site is interactive and you little one will enjoy playing the games so much they won’t realize they are learning. I would recommend starting this at the age of 2-3, it’s never too early to start!

CTCMath Review

Mother and daughter posing with school report

Let me start by saying, I wish I had this program when I was in school, it would have helped me tremendously. When I first considered homeschooling my kids I was worried about how I would do with math and how well I would be able to teach it . Math, honestly, has never been my strong point. I’ve always been a reading, writing, English type of student and when it came to math I did it but I could have done much better. My daughter takes after me and she loves reading. When it came to math she seemed to struggle and I partially blamed myself because my approach and/or delivery wasn’t the best. I searched for months trying to find the right program to help me help her grasp the concepts.

A few days ago I told you about a math program called CTCMath. After signing up for the free trial and exploring the site I was very impressed. The tutor made everything easy to understand. I decided that it would be worth the investment and purchase the program. I have purchased several programs in the past which did not yield the results that CTCMath did in one day. I decided we would do an extended math session today so I could get the feel of the program and see how she liked it.

Before we started CTCMath this morning my daughter had been struggling with rounding. No matter how I tried to explain it, it wasn’t clicking. I looked for games and she kinda got it but when we went back to doing it on paper, it didn’t stick.  It was so frustrating trying to explain something that to me, was super easy to understand. By the end of 2 hours on this program (we covered several topics) she completed rounding with a 95%! I was am AMAZED. I still can’t believe she picked it up in that short of a time and we didn’t have to play online games. Most of all, My child was so happy to finally get it. She was proud to show me her 95% and 100% on her lessons. I was happy that all I had to assist instead of instruct and I didn’t have to grade a thing!

After she completed her math sessions I received an email informing me of what she did for the day and how she scored on all of her topics we covered. I even received 3 awards to print and display! I am so happy I found this program.  If you have a child that needs help in math, please save your sanity and look into this program. I will happily continue to pay for this program until we are done with homeschool. It is well worth the $78.80 per year!

**This is my honest opinion of the product reviewed**

Free foreign language program

For the longest time I’ve wanted to learn and teach my kids a foreign language. I took 3 years of Spanish when I was in school but I forgot majority of it due to lack of use. I was talking to a friend who told me about a free online program that a lot of the witness friends are using to learn foreign languages but she didn’t remember the site. I went on a search to find this free program and I found one that I like and I will start using for my both my daughter and myself.

We decided to go with Duo Lingo. It has short easy to learn lessons, In lesson grading, games and you can use it on your tablet (apple and android).

You can link it to social media (I did not)  but if you are using this for your children, I’d suggest you edit the profile and in the “bio” section and tell people you don’t want friends. I set up a profile for my 10 year old and in the profile I politely put “WE DON’T WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND. MOVE ALONG” Yup- I did… – Teaches 6 languages -Spanish, Dutch, French, Italian, Portuguese and German.

I’m really excited to begin this program and I’ll give you an update to let you know how it goes!
